| Hello all, I worked as a framer for over 8 years. I left the business in 2004 and pursued other areas of interest. My training is what one would call "old school" (no experience with computerized mat cutters). I'm strongly considering getting back into the field on a part-time basis as I attend school.
Having been gone for several years I'm wondering how much the industry has changed, and what further training should I consider to make myself more desirable to potential employers. Any thoughts/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Douglas Virginia, USA

| Most reports suggest this is a tough time for many in the business Now is a good time to buy equipment if you have the work to pay for it with. Lots of used equipment out there right now at fire sale prices. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

chip woolf Carol Woolf Gallery & Frame Factory --> www.CarolWoolf.com Factory Outlet Store ---> www.cwgff.com Hi Chip, Thanks for the reply. I gathered that the industry must be having tough times since the general economy is in such bad shape. Considering that the framing tends to fall into the category of "luxury" expenses, other priorities take precedence over having artwork framed. Seeing that you're in Georgetown,Texas, does Dalhart Windberg still live in that area? One of the galleries I worked at in the 1990's hosted a couple of shows for him. Once again many thanks for the reply and helpful words of advice. Cheers, Douglas Virginia

| Yes Dalhart now has a very nice school facility on Interstate 35 just north of town. He recently decided to retire from painting and closed his gallaries, but is very active as a teacher.
